What the #$&%*! would you like to get off your chest?
Do you ever feel like society isn’t exactly what it should be? Are you tired of certain aspects of it? Do you just feel like cursing and smashing the patriarchy?
This open-mic event offers an opportunity to sound off about patriarchy, politics, inequality and injustice. Participants are free to do this through sharing their personal stories, rhymes, general rants or any other means of expression. All languages welcome. Free entry.
The night is moderated by the feminists Silja and Viima the who will also swear at the patriarchy. They oversee an event concept refined by the Finnish feminist think tank Hattu. Iceland’s first Feminist Swearing Night took place in August 2019 and it was arranged in collaboration with Hattu. We hope to make this a tradition in Iceland as well.
This is one of the weekly sessions for folk music in Reykjavík – there will be drinks provided and all donations collected will go to funding Andrými. If you know what a session is, come and bring songs and tunes (if you have them)! If not, read on.
This session is the only one currently in Iceland but it’s a really common format throughout the English and Gaelic-speaking world and in lots of parts of Europe and probably lots of other places too. The idea is that people come with unamplified music and songs and dances and then do them with other people, usually in a common style. Because we are quite international, most commonly you’ll hear Irish music and songs, and also from Iceland, Scandinavia, Britain, North America and Europe.
These days (since the 1960s), usually a session will happen in a pub, or sometimes a house. It’s not like a concert because it’s not a performance and there’s not really an audience, though there are often people that just come to listen or chat and maybe join in with some singing if they’re feeling that way inclined. It’s also not like a jam session because there are set songs and tunes which all the people participating will know, or are learning. If you want to learn some of these, there’s lots to help you at https://www.facebook.com/groups/RVKsession.
If you don’t play or have a song to bring you’re more than welcome to come and hang out with your friends, and talking, drinking etc. is encouraged during the music – the more atmosphere the better. Sometimes everyone might be quiet to listen to a solo singer. Often you’ll be able to pick up the choruses to the songs and are welcome to join in.
Accessibility:
There is a step before the garden gate and then 5 steps leading to the main entrance, each 17 cm high, door widths in the building vary between 50 cm (upstairs washroom door) and 80 cm (entrance door).
The bathrooms are so far only on the upper floor and in the basement. The door to the meeting room is 75 cm wide (as most other doors in the building). There is no bathroom on the ground floor.
Both washrooms in the building are gender neutral.

OPEN TRAININGS IN FEMINIST SELF-DEFENSE AT THE UNIVERSITY CAMPUS
Friday 17th of january 2020, the first training of feminist self-defense will be held at the university sports hall at 19:00.
The sports hall is accessible for wheelchairs.
//MORE EXACT INFO ON ACCESSIBILITY COMING THURSDAY 16th OF JANUARY//
All women and trans people are welcome (you don’t have to be a student at the University).
Cisgendered men are asked to keep out.*
(*A cis gendered man is someone who identifies as a man, and was assigned male at birth).
ABOUT THE TRAININGS:
The feminist self-defense method which will be followed is called Seito Boei. It includes physical, verbal, psychological and emotional self-defense.
The training group will be meeting every friday.
There will be physical trainings at the sportshall every second friday. The other fridays the group meets in a safer space to train verbal, psychological and emotional self-defense.
SOME GOALS OF THESE FEMINIST SELF-DEFENSE TRAININGS:
Provide each other with more options to choose from when using self-defense, by sharing a diverse range of strategies successfully used by people in real life situations.
Support victims/survivors/defenders to overcome isolation after assault and begin to heal
Expand our notions of what “successful self-defense” is and help each other appreciate all of the ways we keep ourselves safe.
Keep braking the stigma + myths around sexual and gender based assault/abuse so that we can talk about it, take action, and overcome it.
Those interested are encouraged to bring along pads and boxing gloves to the physical trainings. But it is not an obligation.
More information:’Slagtog’ on facebook or e-mail to slagtog@gmail.com
During this event feel free to bring your bike to fix it! You can also put your energy into repairing one of the several bikes given to Andrymi (in the garden shed), or simply just bring your skills for the benefit of thoses who don’t have your science !
Accessibility in Andrými :
The building is currently not wheelchair accessible, unfortunately, but it is our top priority to make it so.
Access to the House
There is a step before the garden gate and then 5 steps leading to the main entrance, each 17 cm high, door widths in the building vary between 50 cm (upstairs washroom door) and 80 cm (entrance door).
The bathrooms are so far only on the upper floor and in the basement. The door to the meeting room is 75 cm wide (as most other doors in the building). There is no bathroom on the ground floor.
Both washrooms in the building are gender neutral, there are name tags and pronoun buttons by the entrance.
Lunch and crafts is a new cyclic meeting program destined for everyone who would be interested in spending time with people while fulfilling themselves artistically. We will be hanging out every other Sunday at lunch time in Andrymi’s cosy room. It’s an occasion not only to do some crafts, but also to make new friends. Every meeting we will be focusing on different genre of art. If you have a creative mind, but you prefer to express it in a company of people, join us and let’s create together!
This week: knitting, embroidery etc. everything concerning yarn, wool, embroidery floss
If you have some tools and materials (old clothes, tshirts, caps etc. are also available), bring them, if not – we will share. If you would like to pursue any other genre of art, you are welcome to do that.
During meetings we will not only eat lunch and create together, it is also a chance for you to shine. If you would like to sing, read poetry or make out this time even more pleasant, you are welcome to come and use the space as a place of a free expression.
The goal is to destine products of our common work for future fundraising helping the cause of keeping Andrými alive and healthy. (But if you would like to make something only for yourself, that’s ok too!)
The meeting will take place on Sunday from 13:00/15:00 (approximately)
Accessibility The Andrými house has it limits regarding accessibility. We are willing to meet any requests about improving accessibility or assisting anyone that asks. The event takes place on the first floor. Both washrooms in the building are gender neutral.
