Internal meeting of the IWW Iceland

Spanish rappers going to jail. #NoCallarem
May 26 @ 16:00 – 18:00

The last years in Spain there’s been a rise in the repression of the freedom of speech and demonstration under the law “Mordaza”(gag) and the reformulation of the penal code. Once more the Spanish state is imposing the evidence of punitive force as a principle of government. One of the consequences is that more than 14 rappers might go to jail because of the lyrics of their songs.

We are going to have a talk about it, presenting the problem and some cases. At the same time we will present the platform “No Callarem” (We won’t shut up), which is articulating the fight against these injustices, and other sings of solidarity.

This is an independently organised event hosted in Andrými. More info here

Changing the story isn’t enough in itself, but it has often been foundational to real changes […] every conflict is in part a battle over the story we tell, or who tells and who is heard.” Rebecca Solnit

Rachel Rose Reid and Owen Shiers are part of a British collective that uncovers over a thousand years of common people’s history in England and Wales through the songs, poetry and stories left behind. They bring excerpts of these shows to Iceland with inspiring narratives from the Norman conquest to the present day.

fjölskyldumorgnar // family mornings
May 27 @ 11:00 – 13:00

–English below–

———————————–
We are a group of families who meet in Andrými where we organize weekly events on Sundays.
Please join us to relax, talk, create, plan, build, construct, deconstruct, and form the world we want for ourselves and our families. You are welcome to bring food for your family, and to share, if you would like. If someone in your family has special needs (accessibility, safety, allergies, etc.) we will try to make the space and activities safe and enjoyable for everybody! There is space to relax and some tea and coffee.

We are cultivating an environment for fun and reflection where we fight oppression and do not allow discrimination and violence. The space where we meet, and the activities we organize, are intended to be accessible to people of all different abilities, and we welcome people who may have felt marginalized or excluded from other family groups. As a part of the Andrými social cooperative, we adhere to the policies of solidarity with oppressed people, support of the natural world, fight against violence including economic violence, and encourage collective decision making.

Þjóðlög samspilasæfing // Traditional Music Beginner’s Session
May 27 @ 14:00 – 16:00

This will be a practice session for those interested in playing folk music. It’s aimed at those with some ability on their own acoustic instruments, but who don’t yet play traditional music or would like to learn more. We’ll usually mention a tune to prepare beforehand that we’ll go through together with someone who knows it well.

The event is only really accessible to those who can already play a little bit of music and have their own instrument (or can borrow one), but that should be the limit.

Andrými is unfortunately not currently wheelchair accessible.

Movie Sundays: Radical Movie Club
May 27 @ 19:00 – 22:00

Every Sunday evening, a relaxing way to finish your weekend and start your week with some things to think about: movie screenings in the big and comfy room of andrymi ! We want to share interesting / political / unknown / all-time favorite / random movies and spend some good time watching them and talking about them. For everyone who wants to escape a bit from life while learning a few things at the same time!

Some themed screenings are to be expected, with different stories and points of view on some topics!

Follow our Facebook page for information on which movies we are screening.

Accessibility:
The building is currently not wheelchair accessible, unfortunately, but it is our top priority to make it so. An architect is already working on drawing a ramp and making an accessible bathroom in the space.

There is a step before the garden gate and then 5 steps leading to the main entrance, each 17 cm high, door widths in the building vary between 50 cm (upstairs washroom door) and 80 cm (entrance door), and the washrooms are so far only on the upper floor and in the basement. The door to the meeting room is 75 cm wide (as most other doors in the building).
Both washrooms in the building are gender neutral.

May 28 @ 16:00 – 18:00

////////////

Do you need advice on a workplace related issue? Come join us at our workers’ drop in session between 16 – 18 on the last Monday of each month.

Trained IWW members will be on hand to answer any questions and give free, confidential advice on issues such as:

Holiday entitlement
Sick pay
Workplace harassment or bullying
Wage theft
Your legal rights at work

The drop in session will be held during regular open community hours at Andrými. The Anarchist Library is available for borrowing books on labor movements and other radical topics and there is coffee and tea and companionship available.

writing community space
May 28 @ 18:30 – 20:30

Monday evenings are offered to all interested in writing and language! Writers, poets, storytellers, translators, bookworms…

The idea is to create a writing community space, with no labels or ownership. An open place to meet and share rather than a formal organization that curates and set the rules. A space to write, talk, read, discuss and dive into writing. A place to get to know the local literary scene. To create, exchange and enjoy.

This space is open to everyone.
Everyone is invited to create this space.
