Þjóðlög samspilasæfing // Traditional Music Beginner’s Session
Aug 19 @ 14:00 – 16:00

This will be a practice session for those interested in playing folk music. It’s aimed at those with some ability on their own acoustic instruments, but who don’t yet play traditional music or would like to learn more. We’ll usually mention a tune to prepare beforehand that we’ll go through together with someone who knows it well.

The event is only really accessible to those who can already play a little bit of music and have their own instrument (or can borrow one), but that should be the limit.

Andrými is unfortunately not currently wheelchair accessible.

Safer Space Workshop
Aug 19 @ 17:00 – 19:00

This is an introduction to safer space for people that want to host events in Andrými or volunteer during the drop-in hours as well as people responsible for the kitchen closing. We want to talk to you about solidarity and think of ways how to make especially oppressed groups feel safer in Andrými than in the mainstream society. Looking forward to see some of you.

(I absolutely recommend people that have been to a workshop before to join again as there is always new and interesting discussions coming up.)

meet // relax // plan // organise // listen // discuss // knit // be alone or in company

We’re open for community drop-in every Monday 12-19, Tuesday 12-17, Wednesday 12-19, and Thursday 12-17.
There are volunteers in the space during these times.

We welcome children.

Accessibility:

We have just moved to a new location at Bergþórugata 20. The building is currently not wheelchair accessible, unfortunately, but it is our top priority to make it so. We are still waiting for a contract of use from the city that would permit us to change the building.

There is a step before the garden gate and then 5 steps leading to the main entrance, each 17 cm high, door widths in the building vary between 50 cm (upstairs washroom door) and 80 cm (entrance door), and the washrooms are so far only on the upper floor and in the basement. The door to the meeting room is 75 cm wide (as most other doors in the building).

Both washrooms in the building are gender neutral.

Writing Community Space
Aug 20 @ 18:30 – 20:30

Monday evenings are offered to all interested in writing and language! Writers, poets, storytellers, translators, bookworms…

The idea is to create a writing community space, with no labels or ownership. An open place to meet and share rather than a formal organization that curates and set the rules. A space to write, talk, read, discuss and dive into writing. A place to get to know the local literary scene. To create, exchange and enjoy.

This space is open to everyone.
Everyone is invited to create this space.

//

From now on you can drop in every Wednesday from 17.00 (to help with cooking) or from 19.00 (to help with eating) and be part of our community. Everyone is welcome – we have a safer space policy in place which we follow to make everyone feel as comfortable and safe as possible.

Andrými and the people’s kitchen entirely non-profit and only from donations and so we kindly ask those that can afford it to contribute 500 ISK or more for the plentiful meal.
