Discussion about the creation of an alternative media in Iceland. The discussion will be in English in the presence of a member of a European alternative media federation.
Theme of the reading circles is the concept and reality of work.
Does work bind us or liberate us? What do we mean when we talk about work? How has capitalism affected our perception of work? What does government say about work? Can we destroy work? What would that even mean?

Slagtog, hópur um femíníska sjálfsvörn, ætlar að sýna heimildarmyndinda Mutantes (Punk Porn Feminism) eftir franska rithöfundinn og feministann Virginie Despentes.
Tilefnið er 8. mars, alþjóðlegur baráttudagur kvenna en einnig er viðburðurinnn ætlaður sem mótsvar við þeirri gífurlega hatursfullu orðræðu í kringum kynlífsvinnu á Íslandi.
Eftir á verða umræður.
Slagtog, a collective of people who practice feminist self-defence, is hosting a movie projection the 8th of march, the international women’s day. The movie shown is Virginie Depentes’ “Mutantes (Punk Porno Feminism)”, a documentary about what has been called by some sex-positive feminism. One reason for the choice of this movie is the excessive amount of anti-sex work discourse we hear in the Icelandic feminist circles.
After the movie we will share some reading and have discussions.
Every second Sunday of the month from 13:00-16:00, the social space Andrými is open especially for families. Our house and garden at Bergþórugata 20 has a long and wonderful history as a kindergarten. Come with your kids to explore and play!
Each time there’ll be a fun activity for children such as drawing, singing, music or crafts. There will be tea and coffee for parents/caretakers, and snacks for the kids. You are welcome to bring food for your family, or to share. If someone in your family has special needs (accessibility, safety, allergies, etc.), please let us know and we will do our best to make the space and activities safe and enjoyable for everybody.
Please note that the afternoons are not a day-care center, and parents or caretakers are responsible for their children at all times.
The next family afternoon will be on the 10th of March and we will be doing crafts. Looking forward to see you.

Combative unionism in Iceland: how well do the tools and methods of Industrial Workers of the World fit in Iceland?
Iceland has a highly regulated labour relations system with vast unions of workers and employers wielding elaborate networks of legal and bureaucratic weapons. The fundamental tools used for self-defence by workers, such as strikes and other job actions, are subject to legal overview by contracts and by government. How well do the tools and methods of the Industrial Workers of the World such as workplace committees, job actions, and popular participation in decision-making fit this scenario?
Dinner will be available. please contact the organizers for food concerns.

Some thoughts extend and expand through writing.
This is a space to write down words on on existence and politics, whatever that may mean for you. It could mean an honest strive for freedom.
