{Íslenska fyrir neðan} Andrými Open Hours!
Do you feel like you need to get out of the house and meet new people? Are you looking for a new book to read? Do you want to check out our freeshop full of clothes or are you just looking for a quiet place to work?
Come to the Open Hours!
There is a large room downstairs with tables, chairs, and armchairs; a kitchen where you can make tea or coffee; the library; freeshop; and two rooms upstairs: one with sofas and armchairs, and one with a table and chairs, ideal for working.
Looking forward to seeing you!
Accessibility:
The house is not wheelchair accessible.
The bathrooms are on the upper floor and in the basement. The door to the meeting room is 75 cm wide (as most other doors in the building). There is no bathroom on the ground floor.
Both washrooms in the building are gender neutral.
A short workshop meant for those who want to organise in Andrými. The workshop has two parts:
Reflect upon what it means to be responsible and accommodating in a radical social space and what the notion of a safer space can mean for different people.
Reviewing all major material safety factors (locations of first aid kits, fire extinguishers and emergency exists etc. …)
The safer space workshop goes over the responsibilities that come with opening the house and taking care of the space. A short overview of key values and guidelines will be followed by a discussion about possible scenarios and solutions as well as a walk-through of the house.
Come over if you would like to learn how to support other people in the space, react to conflicts, get to know more about the work in our solidarity teams during bigger events or better understand why we have created the space.
If you’re already using the space, either organising within/with your group or as a participant, you’re encouraged to get to know how to support other people and build a safer space for all.
Andrými is open due to you, then let’s get together and talk about our radical social centre in town. Learn how to build a community where people feel welcome and safe.
On this day, new SEEDS long term volunteers will have the chance to get to know not just the place Andrymi, but also what it stands for and how they can support the space by hosting events in their camps in the future.
The program consists, among many other parts, of two workshops held by an environmental and a photography camp leader and they will gain knowledge about other SEEDS community projects.
An art workshop for people who want to make art in support of the people of Palestine, bring your own supplies or call 6976960 and we will try to supply it.
14:00 – Kristin Reynisdóttir (Antirasistarnir): Lecture on Anti-racism and white saviorism.
15:30 – Iðunn Andrésdóttir: Open discussion about activism and media
Sunday 18th of February, Kristín Reynisdóttir and Iðunn Andrésdóttir will bring their input to increase knowledge of issues related to solidarity with people on the move. The event will be in English.
The event will be cost free but all donations towards Andrými rent are welcome.
Talking to people from different cultures can be tricky. Sometimes, we don’t understand each other because of language differences or different ways we express ourselves without words. Our cultures affect how we talk and share information. Stereotypes can also get in the way. In this workshop day, hosted by SEEDS Iceland long term volunteers, we learn about different cultures, listen carefully, and be open to new ways of communicating.
