Event in solidarity with the movement in Hambacher Forest.
Since 2012, Hambach Forest has been a political standpoint for environmentalists who are protesting against the German energy company RWE because of the open-pit lignite mine situated on the site. Hambacher Forest has become a symbol of resistance, of environmentalists´fight against coal, and of alternative ways of living.
The start of October marks the start of the annual cutting season – the time between October and February during which RWE has permission to clear the forest. Since September 13, RWE is evicting the tree houses in the forest. Mass actions will take place on the 6th of October as well as a long planned action of civial disobedience on the 25th to the 29th of October.
It’s time to take action! Come together in solidarity with the movement. The aim of this in event is, therefore, to come together in solidarity with the demonstration “Save the forest! Stop coal!” taking place on the same day. We will offer information on the history of the movement and recent developments. We will meet and draw and take a picture to express our solidarity with he activists in Hambacher Forest. We might want to write letters to the actistivst in prison. We can meet and share our thoughts and discuss lines of action.
This event will take place in English and/or Icelandic.
The building is currently not wheelchair accessible, unfortunately.
There is a step before the garden gate and then 5 steps leading to the main entrance, each 17 cm high, door widths in the building vary between 50 cm (upstairs washroom door) and 80 cm (entrance door), and the washrooms are so far only on the upper floor and in the basement. The door to the meeting room is 75 cm wide (as most other doors in the building).
Both washrooms in the building are gender neutral.
