AVO Workshop on Vegan Outreach – closed event
Nov 24 @ 08:00 – Nov 25 @ 17:00

Private workshop for vegan activists pre-registered by AVO.

Accessibility:

The building is currently not wheelchair accessible, unfortunately, but it is our top priority to make it so. We are still waiting for a contract of use from the city that would permit us to change the building.

There is a step before the garden gate and then 5 steps leading to the main entrance, each 17 cm high, door widths in the building vary between 50 cm (upstairs washroom door) and 80 cm (entrance door). The bathrooms are so far only on the upper floor and in the basement. The door to the meeting room is 75 cm wide (as most other doors in the building). There is no bathroom on the ground floor.

Both washrooms in the building are gender neutral.

Fjölskyldumorgnar // Family Mornings
Nov 25 @ 11:00 – 13:00

–English below–

———————————–
We are a group of families who meet in Andrými where we organize weekly events on Sundays.
Please join us to relax, talk, create, plan, build, construct, deconstruct, and form the world we want for ourselves and our families. You are welcome to bring food for your family, and to share, if you would like. If someone in your family has special needs (accessibility, safety, allergies, etc.) we will try to make the space and activities safe and enjoyable for everybody! There is space to relax and some tea and coffee.

We are cultivating an environment for fun and reflection where we fight oppression and do not allow discrimination and violence. The space where we meet, and the activities we organize, are intended to be accessible to people of all different abilities, and we welcome people who may have felt marginalized or excluded from other family groups. As a part of the Andrými social cooperative, we adhere to the policies of solidarity with oppressed people, support of the natural world, fight against violence including economic violence, and encourage collective decision making.

Accessibility:
The building is currently not wheelchair accessible, but it is our top priority to make it so and we are working on getting city approval to make changes to the building. There is a step before the garden gate and then 5 steps leading to the main entrance.

The washrooms are on the upper floor and in the basement. They are gender neutral, and have both adult and child-sized toilets and sinks.

There is plenty of space to park prams and pushchairs outside the entrance.

Vegan Cooking in Iceland: Baked Potatoes
Nov 30 @ 18:00 – 22:00

An event organised by the group Vegan Cooking in Iceland.

Last Friday of the month cooking/eating/meeting. November 2018 theme: Baked Potatoes.

We will join together to enjoy baked potatoes. These can take whatever form we would like, as long as they are vegan! Please bring as many already baked potatoes as you and who you come with need, and one topping to be shared. We can heat up all our potatoes together in the oven to maximize deliciousness, but there won´t be enough time to eat if our potatoes need to be baked at andrými.

if you have any food intolerances or preferences- or don’t -let’s plan ahead to make sure there are some options that will suit everyone.

Accessibility:
The building is currently not wheelchair accessible, unfortunately, but it is our top priority to cultivate a wheelchair accessible space. This is a continuing goal of the organizers of Andrými.

There is a step before the garden gate and then 5 steps leading to the main entrance, each 17 cm high, door widths in the building vary between 50 cm (upstairs washroom door) and 80 cm (entrance door), and the washrooms are so far only on the upper floor and in the basement. The door to the meeting room is 75 cm wide (as most other doors in the building).
Both washrooms in the building are gender neutral.

The space is child-friendly with both indoor and outdoor play areas, and children are welcome!

Dec 14 @ 17:00 – 21:00

Trans Drop-In/Social

Trans-organised event, a safe space for trans & questioning people only. Nonbinary trans folks and intersex people who identify as trans are especially welcome to come!

Second Friday of every month 5-9 PM (AND in the same week as the support group on second Tue of every month, if the weeks are different), the radical social space Andrými hosts an independently organised trans social — a non-structured drop-in time for trans and questioning folks to meet up and chat, use the resources in the house (anarchist library Andspyrna, printer, wood and bike workshop…), create art or organise. Great opportunity to make new friends and chat or to have a relaxing quiet time on your own.

This is a closed event — the whole house is reserved for the trans social.

Check out also trans support group meetings: first Monday of every month 8-10 PM in Samtokin ’78 (https://www.facebook.com/events/444408949419534/) and second Tuesday of every month 7-10 PM in Andrymi (https://www.facebook.com/events/698650737160143/).

As the whole house is reserved for the event, it is possible to be either in the library and a big meeting room downstairs (with tables and chairs) or upstairs in a room with low sofas or in a smaller room with a table and chairs (great for working).

Name and pronoun tags are available.

Anti-Christmas Gathering // Antijólamót
Dec 24 @ 12:00 – 17:00

// English below //

This event is for everybody, no matter if you celebrate Christmas or not. It’s anyways time to celebrate solstice, good company, hot chocolate, tasty meals and the existence of a radical social space in Reykjavík.

The kitchen crew will provide some food (from around 13.00) and we also want to encourage those who can to bring a meal to share -> It’s a potluck

We open the doors at 12 and families are especially welcome. There will be vegan waffles and hot chocolate.
At around 13.00 the potluck will start and we will have lunch together.
Afterwards you can chose to stay and be cosy, maybe watch a movie or just enjoy the great company and conversations that happen at Andrými.

The meeting generally takes place in English. Keep in mind to speak clearly and slowly. Interpretations to other languages could be a possibility on the spot, but even better is to send us a message so that it can be organised beforehand.

Accessibility:
Unfortunately, the building is currently not wheelchair accessible.

There is a step before the garden gate and then 5 steps leading to the main entrance, each 17 cm high, door widths in the building vary between 50 cm (upstairs washroom door) and 80 cm (entrance door), and the washrooms are so far only on the upper floor and in the basement. Lecture: Practicing Tibetan Buddhism in the Modern World
Jan 15 @ 20:00 – 22:00

American Buddhist monk Lama Erik Drew Jung at Andrými!

Come and join us for a cozy evening talk on Tibetan Buddhism with Venerable Bodhi Lama Erik Drew Jung, an American Buddhist monk of the Nyingma sect of Tibetan Buddhism. Lama Erik is a warm and engaging speaker who is on a European tour this month and is visiting Iceland for a week.

Bodhi Lama Erik Drew Jung grew up in Portland, Oregon and at an early age was introduced to Mahayana Buddhism by his father, a practitioner in the Nyingma School of Tibetan Buddhism. In 1990, he earned a bachelor degree from The Evergreen State College. In 1994, he received a licensure in acupuncture (Lic. Ac.) from the Worlsey Institute of Classical Acupuncture, and in 2000, a master degree in acupuncture from The Academy for Five Element Acupuncture.

Lama Erik first took refuge in the Three Jewels 1989 with H. H. The Dhali Lama, and in the spring of 2004 met his root teacher, Tibetan meditation master and thirty-third generation Dzogchen lineage holder, H.E. Dzogchen Khenpo Choga Rinpoche. He took refuge vows with Rinpoche that day, receiving the refuge name Orgyen Thabkey Dorje, and has served and studied closely with his Root Guru ever since.

Since 2004, Orgyen Thabkey Dorje has cumulatively spent more than three years in Dzogchen Buddha Path Retreats and Internships. He took monastic vows in 2008, and since 2010 has worked full time with the Dzogchen Lineage Translation Committee to help Rinpoche compose, translate, and edit the forthcoming Third Edition Buddha Path, along with many other Buddhist texts and sadhanas in English. As well, he has taught Buddhism widely across the U.S., and conducted many overseas teaching tours in Europe and Russia.
