11th of September 1973, a military coup took place in Chile resulting in a
dictatorship under Augusto Pinochet. The dictatorship has fallen but its
legacy is still present.
We commemorate this day and the struggle now taking place in Chile by
showing the documentary The Chicago Conspiracy. Before the film there will
be an intervention from comrades in Chile.
The Chicago Conspiracy is about today. We began this documentary with the
death of a dictator, but we continue with the legacy of a dictatorship.
The Chicago Conspiracy is about the Day of the Youth Combatant. On this
day, two young brothers and militants of the MIR, Rafael and Eduardo
Vergara, were gunned down by police as they walked through the politically
active community Villa Francia. March 29 is not only about the Vergara
brothers—it is a day to remember all youth combatants who have died under
the dictatorship and current democratic regime.
The Chicago Conspiracy is about the students who fight a dictatorship-era
educational law put into place on the last day of military rule. Over
700,000 students went on strike in 2006 to protest the privatized
educational system. Police brutally repressed student marches and
occupations.
The Chicago Conspiracy is about the neighborhoods lining the outskirts of
Santiago. They were originally land occupations, and later became centers
of armed resistance against the military dictatorship. A number of them,
such as la Victoria and Villa Francia, continue as areas of
confrontational discontent to this day.
The Chicago Conspiracy is about the Mapuche conflict. The Mapuche people
valiantly resisted Spanish occupation, and continue to resist the Chilean
state and the multinational corporations who strip Mapuche territory for
forestry plantations, mines, dams and farming plantations. The government
has utilized the dictatorship-era anti-terrorism law to jail Mapuche
community members in struggle. Two young weichafes (Mapuche warriors),
Alex Lemún and Matías Catrileo, were recently killed by Chilean police—one
in 2002, the other in 2008.

An informal introduction to the current Indigenous-led struggle to protect the waters and land in Mi’kma’ki (specifically the so-called Nova Scotia and New Brunswick) and Secwepemcul’ecw (so-called South-Central British Columbia) followed by discussion.
The talk will focus on the Mi’kmaq resistance against the Alton Gas salt cavern project on the Shubenacadie River, and the Secwepemc Tiny House Warriors protesting in similar way against the Kinder Morgan Trans Mountain Pipeline Project, together with very brief setting in the context of the history of Indigenous resistance in so-called Canada. This wants to be a brief presentation and discussion about the powerful resistance movement against one of the most unnecessary imposed megaproject of coal mining in Germany. The talk will sum-up the actions of this large movement since 2012, when the first occupation of the Hambacher forest took place, until today when the occupation is threatened with eviction as we speak and a huge Ende Gelande (#stopdigging, #KeepItInTheGround) action is planned for the end of October.
The presentation wants to take a look at the way resistance is build around this case, and less about the industry which is opposing. On one hand there are the occupiers of the forest, which struggle daily on the spot against the company’s machines and exploitation; on the other hand, there is a self-organized campaign of direct action which took incredible sizes, being spread through the masses of activists, different formal and non-formal groups and individuals. Some lines of possible actions will be presented at the end and open discussions expected.

The idea is that you bring the stuff that your kids don’t need anymore and you can take home the things you and your children like and can make use of.
The rules are simple:
1. Do you have books, shoes, clothes, toys or anything else that your children don’t need anymore? Please, bring them, ideally organised by size.
2. Do you find something you like for your kids? Feel free to take it!
3. Spend some quality time with good friends and like-minded people, and above all have fun!

Anarchism, Democracy and the Icelandic Constitution
In 2012 Iceland embarked on a process of rewriting its national constitution. Unlike many examples around the world where countries renew or change their constitutions, this was to be a ‘crowd-sourced’ constitution, with the people of Iceland having a more direct and participatory role in how the new constitution was to look. This discussion workshop will reflect on that process and ask what it means for something a process like writing a constitution to be genuinely democratic. How can people be actively involved? What barriers are there stopping certain people from taking part? How can those barriers be overcome. Drawing on anarchist ideas of democracy, the workshop builds on discussions with activists and others in Iceland to explore what it would take for participatory democracy to work properly.
The workshop takes place in English (interpretation by request) and is hosted by Dr. Thomas Swann:
“I completed my PhD at the University of Leicester School of Management in September 2015. Prior to that, I gained an MA in Social and Political Philosophy from Radboud University Nijmegen in 2010 and an MA in Philosophy from the University of Glasgow in 2008. My research has examined the connections between anarchism and organisational cybernetics, aiming to develop ‘anarchist cybernetics’ as a framework for understanding radical left social movement organisation. More broadly, this included looking at the nature of autonomy in anarchist organisation, the relationship between tactics, strategy and grand strategy and the ways in which communication can be understood in a radical left context. An important element of this work focused on the notion of alternative social media.”

Anarchism, Democracy and the Icelandic Constitution
In 2012 Iceland embarked on a process of rewriting its national constitution. What barriers are there stopping certain people from taking part? How can those barriers be overcome. Drawing on anarchist ideas of democracy, the workshop builds on discussions with activists and others in Iceland to explore what it would take for participatory democracy to work properly.

The building is currently not wheelchair accessible, unfortunately, but it is our top priority to make it so.
There is a step before the garden gate and then 5 steps leading to the main entrance, each 17 cm high, door widths in the building vary between 50 cm (upstairs washroom door) and 80 cm (entrance door), and the washrooms are so far only on the upper floor and in the basement. The door to the meeting room is 75 cm wide (as most other doors in the building).
Both washrooms in the building are gender neutral.
