Introduction to Sociocracy

19 April, 2026

Welcome to a weekend introduction to the principles behind sociocracy, also known as dynamic governance. Sociocracy offers a practical and inspiring framework for rethinking how we organise, make decisions, and share power in groups, organisations, and communities.

At a time when many existing governance systems struggle to include diverse perspectives while still being effective, sociocracy offers a different path. It brings together participatory decision-making, distributed leadership, and ongoing learning through feedback. Decisions are made by consent, meaning they are "good enough for now and safe enough to try", so groups can move forward while staying flexible and responsive.

This course combines theory with hands-on practice. Together, we will explore key elements such as consent decision-making, roles and circles, and feedback loops. Through exercises and real-life examples, participants will gain both an introductory understanding of sociocracy and a felt sense of how it works in practice. The training is designed as a shared learning space, where curiosity, reflection, and participation are all welcome.

Participants often highlight the value of learning through experience, and the feeling of being in a space where everyone can contribute and learn together.

Whether you are part of a grassroots initiative, an organisation, a network, or are simply curious about new ways of collaborating, this weekend will offer inspiration and practical tools to bring back into your own context.

Ruth Marie Kondrup works with sociocracy in the Danish Permaculture Association and in volunteer-based organisations. She also coordinates the Nordic Seed Alliance and is part of the council of ECOLISE a European network connecting community-led initiatives such as transition movements, permaculture, and ecovillages, working towards regenerative and resilient societies. Her work focuses on strengthening participation, regenerating organisational cultures, and supporting more equitable and resilient ways of working together.

We look forward to exploring together how we can create more conscious, effective, and life-serving ways of organising.
